Riverside Reads: A Book Club for Women and Women-Identified Alums
By Rod Granger
We are excited to announce the launch of a book club, Riverside Reads, for our women and women-identified alums! The club will provide an opportunity for participants to come together, connect, and celebrate stories written by women that reflect their experiences, struggles, and triumphs as women and as immigrants.
Through each book, readers will explore themes that matter to them, including identity, belonging, resilience, and empowerment. Together, club members will continue to develop their English, build community, share perspectives, and lift each other up through conversation and reflection.
Tamara Kirson, a former English teacher who has experience leading a book club with immigrant women from around the world, will facilitate Riverside Reads. Her approach is to create a caring and joyful community of readers.
The first book will be “I am Malala, Young Readers Edition: How One Girl Stood Up for Education and Changed the World,” and copies will be provided to club participants. Meetings will take place every two weeks on Wednesdays – except during holidays – at Riverside’s new home, where participants will sit around a table and read together. The initial meeting will focus on reading the first chapter of “I am Malala.”
If you are a Riverside alumna or woman-identified alum and are interested in becoming a book club member, please complete this application form.
